Nature Encounter Center

The Nature Encounter Center is located at the Willow Lake Recreation Area near Woodbine.  Bring the family to learn more about nature and the environment.  Look at natural history displays, discover wildlife found in Harrison County, or visit the touch and feel table.  You can also meet some of the live animals in the nature center like turtles, snakes, and salamanders.

Learn more about butterflies and gardening by touring the Willow Lake Butterfly Garden and Pond located next to the nature center.  Interpretive signs tell visitors about common butterfly species, how to attract both caterpillars and butterflies, and why they are so important.  While many flower species are in bloom from May-September, peak time to see the most colors is July-August with milkweeds, asters, bergamot, butterfly bush, and many more!
